(Re-)Designed Technical Manual

Purpose

In this assignment you will form a team who will design a set of instructions or how-to-manual for a target culture. You will need to research your intended audience (country statistics, popular communication practices, demographics, etc.) and submit a proposal as to why your team should be hired along with a mockup of the instructions set or manual. Once you've successfully been hired, you will design the instructions or manual and, finally, reflect on your design process as a team.

Directions

This manual needs to have about 20 steps and requires the user to use the eyes, hands, and brain together. Write to the generalized cultural patterns of that target culture, based on the course pack and text book. The organization will vary according to the cultural values of the audience.

Assignment is due on March 30, 2011.  

Grading Rubric/Scale

This assignment will be assess based on your capacity to examine the following elements:

“steps, graphics, photos, warnings, company information, page layout, author information, assumptions about technical expertise of the audience, introductory and concluding materials, information on whether the step is accomplished correctly, time frames, relation between visual and verbal communication, compactness or white space of the page, assumptions about how the manual will be used in relations to other people, word choice, syntax, sentence organization, and others.”
